American Trote & Trocha Association Upcoming Events & New ATTA President!

Events we enjoyed....
"Several Trocha, Trote y Galope and Paso Fino Horses recently represented the Paso horse breed at the "Festival of the Horse" all Breed Demo which was held in April at the Florida Horse Park in Ocala, Florida. This was a three day event which included eventing, grand prix jumping, Jack Russell races and of course the breed demo. Below are just a few of the pictures taken. We will be posting more of the photos on our website. The drill team known as Paso Elegante also performed with great skill. The drill team is made up of all Paso Fino horses and their owners. The crowd really enjoyed the entertainment and the information about the breeds. We look forward to this event next year and hope you can join us if you are in the area. "

On Saturday, January 22, 2005 the American Trote & Trocha Association (ATTA) held its All Paso Horse Festival at the beautiful "Fiddle Leaf Farm" owned by Cathie and Mike Siemer. Fiddle Leaf Farm is a well known Paso Fino facility managed by Josey Berrios. Fiddle Leaf is located in Summerfield Florida which is just a few miles south of Ocala. There was plenty of room for all of the horse trailers and vendors to setup booths. Great Latin music from our DJ Carlos Sanchez and the smooth voice of our announcer Liz Morales filled the air creating a positive upbeat atmosphere. This was greatly appreciated by the group of spectators who enjoyed watching the horses, complimentary coffee, a meal or by visiting our vendors. Some of the vendors such as Coltack Equine were offering discounts to all ATTA members.

There were 33 entries registered in Equitation, Pleasure, Performance, Fino, and Trote y Galope. These were divided into Novice, Amateur, and Professional categories. The exhibitors were judged under Confepaso rules by Andres Mejia and Diego Bravo. Eduardo Tobon was the apprentice judge and the ring steward was the lovely Olga Lucia Garcia. Our exhibitors certainly appreciated Luis Acosta’s assistance and advice during "Prepista" (Prepista is the check-in area where the horses are inspected prior to entering the ring). Awards and ribbons were presented by Valerie Segovia and Luisa Betancur with style and grace. The show office ran efficiently with Rosanne Gmuer in charge, and Glenna Struthers offered her warm smile and support to anyone who needed information about the ATTA and getting their forms filled out. Thank you to everyone who offered their assistance during this event!

The show was not only entertaining but very educational as well. The spectators and exhibitors commented many times about how much they learned and appreciated the explanation of our expert judges’ decisions as well as the information provided about proper presentation of the horse. Each modality (gait division) was given a detailed explanation as to what to look for in an example of Paso Fino, Trocha, Trocha y Galope and Trote y Galope.

The exhibitors and horses ranged from beginners at their first show to world class trainers and accomplished horses. Each and every one of them are passionate about the horse and we truly appreciate their efforts and admire them for all the hard work they put into showing their horses.

I must mention some of the riders and horses who presented themselves in such a way (rising to the occasion) that they stood out in the ring and went on to win 1st Place blue ribbons in their classes and Championships. They are:

"Serenata de Amadeus" (Amadeus x Definition) a beautiful black mare ridden by both Robin and Jessica Varney of Ocala, FL. This mare was well prepared and completed all task asked of her in the following classes: Equitation ages 7-12 (Jessica) 1st place, Equitation Adult (Robin) 1st place, Fino Fillies & Mares Amateur (Robin) 1st place, Fino Novice (Jessica) 1st place, Fino Amateur Championship (Jessica) 1st place.

"Fairway’s Feliciano" (Prometido de Selecta x Teoria de La Luisa)  It was this very promising young colt’s first time in the ring, however his owner Sheila Spence of Morriston, FL rode him with great skill looking like a pro, to win 1st place in both the Performance Geldings/Colts/Stallion Amateur division, and Performance Amateur Championship.

Michael Guzman of Zephyrhills, FL showed off his riding abilities with "El Coordinador" (Cosmos x Luminosa de Villa Nor) winning 1st place in Fino Geldings/Colts/Stallions Amateur, and Reserve Champion in Fino Amateur.

"Reposeida del Conde" (El Director del Dagua x Cantaleta del Conde) ridden by Jose A. Nieves of Ocala, FL, owned by Jose D. Moret-Cardona was a very nice example of a pleasure horse winning 1st place in both Pleasure Fillies & Mares Open and the Pleasure Open Championship.

"Misionero" (Piloto de Resorte IV x Pirueta) kept his owner Linda Crews of Lake Placid, FL busy. This experienced show gelding was very consistent in all his classes: Pleasure Geldings/Colts/Stallions Amateur, 1st place. Performance Novice, 1st place, Pleasure Amateur Championship, 1st place and Performance Novice Championship, 1st place.

"La Duena de D.L." (Tobias del Ocho X La Lambada del C.O.C.O.) owned by Jaime Rivera was ridden by both Jonathan and Jariel Rivera of Kathleen, FL. They both showed very well in: Performance Fillies & Mares Open (Jonathan), 1st place, Performance Fillies & Mares Amateur (Jariel), 1st place and Performance Amateur Championship (Jariel), 2nd place.

"Sol y Sombra de Qgua Clara" (Cosmos x Serpentina) owned by Ana Maria Pabon of Ocala, FL was very nicely presented by Jose Figueroa in Fino Geldings/Colts/Stallions Open, 1st place and also won 1st. place in the Fino Championship.

"Santa Rita de la Cilia" (Lucero de Pahuana x Navidad III) a lovely bay mare, owned by Barbara Perich of Odessa, FL offered the spectators an opportunity to see an example of a wonderful Trote y Galope. Ridden by both Tanya Perich and Dadier A. Rosario. Trote & Galope Fillies & Mares Open (Dadier), 1st place. Trote & Galope Fillies & Mares Amateur (Tanya), 1st place. Trote & Galope Fillies & Mares Amateur Championship (Tanya), 1st place. Trote & Galope Fillies & Mares Open Championship (Dadier), 2nd place.

Lastly in the Trote & Galope Geldings/Colts/Stallions division "Sucesor de Soberbio" (Soberbio de la Luisa x Parabola de la Luisa), owned by Manuel Ortiz of Ocala, FL and ridden by Francisco Castro. Trote & Galope Geldings/Colts & Stallions, 1st place. Francisco is an expert at presenting Trote y Galope horses, although he did not place in the Championship, this young colt did well for his first showing.

At the end of the show one name was picked from an envelope of all the exhibitors. The award was for artwork created by Cheri Prill who is known for her equine reproductions. She created a beautiful 20" x 25" pastel depicting a Trote y Galope stallion. This was presented by me and the artist to Manuel Ortiz, the owner of "Sucesor de Soberbio".

I don’t have enough room to post all of the results; however, I would like to list the names of the remaining exhibitors who did an excellent job. Even though these riders did not win in Championship classes, they are all winners and showed very well. Our congratulations and appreciation to: Lorie Childers, Rachel Chun, Abner Cordero, Sharon Crouch, Derek Fernandez, Adrienne & Edward Israel, Nancy Maleske, Jessa Martin, Devon Mitchell, Ana Maria Pabon, Anita Poortenga, Jose Torres, Edwin Quintana, and Ashley & Megan Vincent.

Without the support of our membership there would be no ATTA. We welcome and thank everyone who became a new member or renewed their membership. I am happy to announce we have 28 new members.

The ATTA is looking for sponsors to help us with the promotion of our events. It is a great opportunity for your organization to grow with us and offer products to customers who are passionate about the horses. I would like to thank the following organizations for their participation:  Showtime Magazine (the official ATTA publication), Coltack Equine Supply, Galapando TV, Joe’s Leather Shop, Cheri Prill the Equine Artist, Mona’s Latte Coffees, Tahitian Noni Juice, and Carlos Rodriquez our food vendor.

If your organization or farm would like to join us, please contact me (Lori Perez) at (352) 347-7761 or email ATTA.

ATTA is dedicated to protecting the integrity, Spanish heritage and promotion all of the Paso horses (Paso Fino, Trote and Trocha horse). Our events offer a venue in which all the Paso modalities can be shown. They are judged under Confepaso rules which enable exhibitors to prepare themselves and the horse for International competitions. ATTA is recognized by Confepaso and PFHA as the official registry for Trote y Galope, Trocha y Galope and Trocha horses in the United States.
